Kazbah

What better way to celebrate Australia Day and Australia's food diversity than to enjoy breakfast at Balmain at a restaurant that contains the flavours from Morocco, North Africa & the Middle East.

Kazbah is one of those places where you need to book, we have failed to do so in the past and left disappointed. For those familiar with Balmain, Kazbah is located on Darling Street right opposite the town hall. You could easily walk past mistaking it for just another cafe on the busy strip, but once you stop to peek inside you will feel the urge to explore this place further. This middle Eastern themed restaurant decorated with their array of Moroccan lanterns, urns and other added features, boasts an ambiance that you will not find elsewhere.

We started with some fresh juices

Pineapple, lemon & Mint and watermelon & ginger - very healthy.
They provide you with crayons and you can draw on the paper table cloths creating your own master piece whilst you wait for your food. I challenged Lisa to a game of noughts and crosses.

Complimentary water with fresh Mint, Lemon & Rose Water frappe

I had never seen a breakfast menu quite like this one, the choices extended well beyond the usual scrambled eggs on toast. Instead I was choosing between Sweet Couscous, Mixed Nuts, Dried Fruit, Stewed Rhubarb, Cardamom Milk $15, Chakchouka Scrambled Eggs, Smoked Salmon, Turkish Toast $16 and I was introduced to the Breakfast Tagine for the very first time.
Warm Rice Pudding, Saffron Poached Pear, Hazelnuts $15

Feta Potato Cake, Smoked Salmon, Crème Fraîche, Red Wine Onion Marmalade $19.5

Lamb Tagine: Lamb Mince, Sucuk, Feta, Spinach, Capsicum, Caramelised Onion, Tomato, Eggs $17 per person.

When this dish came out it looked absolutely amazing, it was still sizzling in the pot and the smell coming from it was just overwhelming! It screamed 'Eat me Now!!'. Our noisy group of 6 suddenly became very silent and all your could hear was content mumbles of '...MMmMMmmm..."

The detail that you find in this restaurant is impressive, the plates were bursting with colour and added to the whole dining experience. I can't wait to come again! (Yes this mean you Helen, I know we've been meaning to go and if we can gather a group of 8 people we can sample their set breakfast menu).

Before you visit Kazbah, I recommend that you check that they are serving the menu that you want as I was told that certain menus are served on certain days.
